Michael P. McDunn, Kiawah Huntboard
This Kiawah Huntboard is a reproduction of a huntboard currently located at Kiawah Island, SC, which was built in Upstate SC around 1800. The 1800s original is at the River Course Clubhouse where it lends its great beauty and charm to the elegant surroundings there. Above: the reproduction in the gallery here in Greenville, is constructed from old-growth pine from Jekyll Island, GA. The dimensions are 70 x 22 x 45. It has a mortise-and-tenon and peg carcass and the drawers are all hand-cut dovetails, front and back. The top, back, bottom and side panels are all single-slab pieces of wood and the drawer fronts are cut from a single piece of wood and bookmatched. Like the original huntboard from the 1800s, all surfaces have been hand planed and scraped. This huntboard reproduction was lovingly hand rubbed with Michael's special tung oil and beeswax finish, bringing about its rich, honey-colored patina.
